getting started
Choosing a wig involves a few decisions you might not have made before — cap construction, hair density, length, sizing, hair type. None of it is complicated once it's explained, and that's what this guide is for. Whether you're after a Ready to Ship wig, an Express wig, or a fully bespoke one, the more you understand these terms, the more confident you'll feel about what you're buying. With a bespoke wig you'll choose every detail yourself. With Ready to Ship and Express, some of these are already decided for you — so this guide helps you check that what's on offer is genuinely right for you before you order.Take it section by section, or jump straight to the part you need.In this guide:
Your three wig options
Before the detail, it helps to know which route suits you — because the right wig isn't only about the style, it's about how soon you need it and how much is made around you.

We recommend:
A Ready to Ship Wig
One-of-a-kind pre-made styles, dropped monthly and dispatched within 5 days. You're choosing from finished pieces, so what you see is what arrives – no wait, no build time.
By far best wig l've ever owned. Even for an absolute newbie to laying down lace, it looked undetectable. The hair is so soft too!

We recommend:
AN EXPRESS SEMI-CUSTOM WIG
The cap is pre-constructed, so we go straight to the finishing touches that make it yours — your colour and your cut. A custom finish on a quicker timeline of around 3-4 weeks.
My wig is absolutely gorgeous I’m so happy, genuinely shocked at how undetectable it is! Best hairlines in the game

We recommend:
A FULLY CUSTOM WIG
Built from scratch, from cap construction to hairline, density, length and shade. Every detail is yours, and it takes around 8-12 weeks to create.
The quality of my custom DMUSE wig is outstanding, and the fit is so perfect that it genuinely feels like my own hair. I’m so incredibly grateful for companies like this, they make such a difference for those of us dealing with hair loss!
Cap types
The cap is the base your wig is built on. It affects how the wig sits, how you can style it, and how natural the hairline looks. There are four types.Choosing Ready to Ship or Express? The cap type is already set on these wigs and can't be changed, so check which cap your chosen wig has and that it suits how you like to style your hair. Going bespoke? You'll choose your cap type as part of the design process — and if you're unsure which suits you, a consultation will help.

Hair types
Every DMUSE wig is made from 100% ethically sourced human hair — which is what lets it look, move and style like your own. Within that, there are two lines to choose from: raw and virgin. Both are real human hair and both will look and feel natural — the difference is in the sourcing, the upkeep and the price. If you're torn, you can ask for a quote on both and decide once you've seen the difference side by side.Choosing Ready to Ship or Express? The hair type is already set on these wigs — check which line your chosen wig uses so you know what to expect from styling and upkeep. Going bespoke? You'll choose between raw and virgin as part of your order, and you're welcome to request a quote for both before you commit. Book a consultation if you'd like help weighing them up.Raw hair

Sizing
Cap size is one of the most important decisions you'll make, because a well-fitting wig is a comfortable, secure, confident one. Most people fit a standard size, and DMUSE also offers custom sizing on bespoke wigs.
To find your size, you'll need a few measurements: circumference, front to nape, ear to ear across the forehead, ear to ear over the top, temple to temple, and nape. Watch our tutorial on how to measure your head accurately before you start — it makes all the difference. (100% custom sizes are also available)
Choosing Ready to Ship or Express? These come in standard sizes — measure first and check yours matches before you order. Going bespoke? You can have a fully custom size made to your exact measurements, so there's no guesswork.
If sizing is the part you're least sure about, you don't have to work it out alone. Book a consultation and we'll measure with you and recommend the right fit.
